Will this ever end? Transition Part Deux

So, I get a few questions about transition and change. I want to respond to one of the most popular questions I receive on transition. Here it is:

“Brendaaaaaaaaa,”
“I have been in transition foreeeeeever and I can’t stand it anymore. When will it endddddddddddddddd?”

Dramatic, I know but if you have been through a tough and long transition, you can relate.

So, the question is: “When will transition end?”

Well, here’s the answer.
Ready?
Drum rolls please……

I have not a clue when it will end. Not a clue.
Sorry darlin’. Transition timelines are a mystery to me too!

But I can say confidently:

This time will not last forever!
This time will not last forever!
This time will not last forever!
This time will not last forever!

Got it?

One more time: This time will NOT last forever.

Now, I know you know this and it is certainly not want you want to hear.
But, your question tells me you are as uncomfortable as a pregnant lady in her 9th month.
I get it!!!! Well, not the pregnant part… I get that you are miserable…ready to take a load off… Ugh! You know what I mean. ;0)

I know the discomfort is killin’ you. I feel ya! It’s the unknown. It’s the frustration. It’s the unanswered questions. It’s the “nothing fits anymore” feeling that driving you bonkers.
I get it!

But think back to your last transition.
Did it end? Yes!
Could you have guessed when it would end? Nope!

The good news is they ALL end.
The bad news is we spend way too much energy and time groaning through each transition.
I know because I too have groaned and moaned myself through many ‘a transitions.

But…come on. Isn’t it true that every transition has an end? Absolutely!

So, my encouragement to you, dear one is…..Transition does have an expiration date but that doesn’t matter.

Instead of focusing on human timetables — which by the way hold no weight in transition-world— keep your heart focused on being open, tender and trusting.

This journey is not something you have to:
control
do alone
dread
struggle through
despise
dismiss
fear
sabotage
abort
destroy
compromise
shorten
_________

So instead of asking, “When will it enddddd?”

Ask yourself:
“Am I ‘Growing’ through this transition or ‘Groaning’ through it”?

When you can honestly ask that question without gritting your teeth, rolling your eyes and balling your fists — you are well on your way to growing through a transition.

One glorious day, the exhaustion, the concern, the unknowns, the darkness, the discomfort, and endless string of unanswered questions— they WILL pass.
In a strange, mysterious instant, there will be:
a beam of light
answered prayers
fresh air
clarity
perspective
a sigh of relief

Do you believe this or did you just roll your eyes? ;0)

Dear friend, I know it is hard to believe there will be ‘light at the end of the tunnel’ when all you have seen is the blackest of night for days, weeks, months or even years.
But I will say it for the umpteenth time: This time will not last forever! G-R-O-W through it!

So take a deep breath, put on your walking shoes and throw that watch out, sista!
It is adding stress to the process.

Transition well, and do know that I am your biggest fan.

Growing through,
Brenda B
