A sacred space to
pause, listen, and discern what’s next.

Letters from Me to You

Share your email and I will send you a welcome gift: one of my favorite spiritual practices, a simple way to slow down and listen for God in the noise of your life. Yours to keep. Then, twice a month, a letter from me. Honest writing about life with God. Messy. Tender. Unfinished. Held with hope. And you can always write back at brenda@brendabertrand.com. That is my real inbox, and I read every message.

Meet Brenda

My first theologians and spiritual directors were my mother and grandmother, two Caribbean women who lived lives of prayer, kindness, courage, and holy action. They taught me that contemplation is never separate from love of neighbor. They remain my first and favorite teachers.

What they planted became my life's work. For more than thirty years, I have been walking with women as they learn to hear God clearly and to hear their own lives clearly, to discern what is next, and to take the faithful step toward it.

I am an ordained minister, spiritual director, and retreat leader. My work stands in the long tradition of contemplation, liberation, and women's becoming. I sit with women in chapels and on military bases. In seminary offices and living rooms. In grief, in calling, in the quiet exhaustion of holding it all together while wondering if any of it is working. I carry a particular love for women of color and for everyone the church has overlooked, because liberation is not a theme in my work. It is the work. Right now, my one-to-one spiritual direction lives inside Gather at the Well, where I accompany Black women leading in ministry as they heal themselves and their communities.

I create grounded, spacious environments where you can be fully yourself, listen deeply to what is true beneath the surface, release what is not yours to carry, and respond to your life with honesty and courage. Wherever you are standing right now is holy ground.

I know what it is to lose your voice, to stay faithful in spaces that could not see you, to survive what should have broken you, and to find your way back home. So when I say freedom is possible, I am not quoting a book. I am telling you what I know.

Love resurrects. The long dark season does not get the last word.

And God, it turns out, has a sense of humor: my education runs from Oral Roberts University to Princeton Theological Seminary, with stops at the Rhode Island School of Design, Miami University, the University of Texas, and Creighton along the way. I stopped trying to make my story tidy a long time ago. Every stop was holy ground. Those stops left me with undergraduate and graduate degrees and certificates in design, theology, organizational leadership, spiritual direction, and mindfulness meditation, and each one buoys the work I do today. A season in global consulting carried me through more than forty countries, where I learned God keeps no favorite time zone. There are a few more certificates tucked in a box I have no plans to frame. The degrees taught me plenty. My mother and grandmother's kitchen table taught me more.

My newest joy is teaching women and organizations the human-centered, ethical use of AI, making life simpler so there is more room for what only humans can do: presence, discernment, and love.

All of it is the work I do every day: retreats, sacred pilgrimages, group spiritual direction, online and in-person courses, and gatherings built for real life. You can hear the heart of it on my podcast, Guided: Hearing God's Voice in a Noisy World.

I was raised in the Virgin Islands and am rooted in Tulsa, Oklahoma, proof that God plants deep roots in unexpected soil. These days you will find me laughing with friends, chasing sunsets, hunting the world for the perfect matcha, and leaning into a life with God that stays honest, joyful, and true.

If something in you leaned closer while you read this, that is worth listening to. There is room for you here. Your whole story belongs. You do not have to walk this alone.

Listen to Guided

Life is loud. And still, God is near, and something in you longs to live like that is true.

Guided: Hearing God's Voice in a Noisy World is honest conversation about the relationship that changes everything.

For seekers, doubters, and the spiritually hungry. No performing. No pretending. Just me and you, and everything I am learning and unlearning about prayer. Sometimes I bring a friend.

Sometimes, I sit down with friends who open up their interior lives: how they hear God, how they pray, how they stay connected in the seasons when God feels silent, and how they go deeper with the God who is already close.

Guided is twenty minutes of truth-telling, whenever your soul needs it.
